About the Artist

Peg Franken, a Tucson artist, was first introduced to painting as a child while taking art classes in Chicago. Since childhood, she had worked as a fiber artist until 2000 when she resumed painting first in watercolor, and more recently in acrylic.

In addition to art classes in Tucson from local and visiting artists, she has studied privately with nationally acclaimed artists in Taos, Santa Fe, and Los Angeles.

Her work is generally characterized by an expressionist or surrealistic style that conveys a human dilemma or condition, often using animals or birds to portray the message. Peg’s lively and thought-provoking paintings, whether in acrylics or watercolor, use intense, bold colors.

Peg is Past President and a Signature Member of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild in Tucson, Arizona. She has exhibited paintings and received awards in many juried local and national shows, sponsored by the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild, the Arizona Watercolor Association in Phoenix, and the Tubac Center of the Arts in Tubac, Arizona.
