REACH

Roles

One of the key aspects of the REACH regulation is the significance it places on the different roles within the supply chain. Your obligations and the actions you need to take for compliance depend on whether you are a manufacturer, importer, downstream user, distributor of chemical substances, or a producer or importer of articles. Determining your role is the first step to identifying the appropriate guidance, information and training that you will need to fulfil your obligations.

Identifying your role in REACH

  • I am based within the EU

  • I manufacture chemicals within the EU and /or

  • I import chemicals into the EU

Non-EU chemical

supplier

  • I am based outside the EU

  • I export chemical to the EU

User of EU sourced chemicals

  • I am based within the EU

  • I use chemicals bought from within the EU to make products or run processes within my business; and I don’t import chemicals into the EU

Many companies will find that more than one of the roles is applicable to them, only a few will have a single discrete role to play in the chemical supply chain. But identifying how your main activity is defined within REACH will set you on the right track. Click on the appropriate area above, or use the menu on the right to find out more about your key responsibilities.

If you are a GB-based company, UK REACH applies to you. Please see our Brexit webpage for more information.
